May 22, 2009 (Madrid, Spain) – Bilingual Readers (http://www.bilingualreaders.com) is a brand new publishing company which provides bilingual resources for families and communities. The launch of its website will officially take place on June 1, 2009.

“We believe that growing up with two or more languages can be an enriching experience for children, parents and teachers alike, and it can also be a lot of fun!” explain cofounders Íñigo Gil and Deanna Lyles. “Our catalogue of English/Spanish bilingual books, games and activities is a constantly growing source of materials, which will help parents to reinforce their children’s language skills and instill a love of reading in them from day one,” they add. “Currently we only have products available for bilingual readers of English and Spanish, but we are excited about offering our products in many different language combinations in the near future.”

Although the first two books from Bilingual Readers will be not be published until October 2009 (though a discounted pre-sale option will be announced on their website soon), the Bilingual Readers blog and free monthly e-newsletter are already underway, and you can even keep up with them on Facebook and Twitter.

Bilingual Readers got its start when American/Spanish couple Deanna Lyles and Íñigo Gil began doing extensive research on bilingual language acquisition, early children’s literacy and multilingual parenting techniques in order to be as prepared as possible for raising their own bilingual children. Both were fascinated by the important role reading plays even in monolingual language development and could only conclude that reading was even more important for reinforcing language skills in bilingual children. So they set off to develop a line of products which would help the parents of bilingual families to develop and reinforce their children’s language skills through reading, and Bilingual Readers was born!
