Íñigo Gil

Íñigo Gil

Name: Íñigo Gil

Age: 29

Where are you from? From (the world's most famous city) Bilbao

How many places have you lived? Bilbao, Salamanca, London, Salamanca again, Bilbao again and Madrid (to break up the city symmetry).

Travel experiences? Luckily my parents love to travel, so when I was a kid I had the chance to travel around Spain, and even Europe. I remember when in 1990 we drove all the way up to Germany (we spent the whole month of August camping there!). I also remember Tunisia, my first and last time in Africa. And Sicily, a very romantic place that I hope I'll revisit with my wife. And in 1997 I went to the USA for the first time: New York, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, San Diego, L.A., Carmel and San Francisco (21 pretty busy days). Lately I've been visiting the US more frequently, I wonder why...

How did you end up settling in Madrid? Right after I finished college in Salamanca I started an M.A. in Publishing here in Madrid, and then I found a job, and then another one... and I got married and we even bought a flat (it sounds even crazier when you write it down).

What were your favorite books as a child? Comic books: Zipi y Zape, Mortadelo y Filemón, Astérix y Obélix, Carpanta, Pepe Gotera y Otilio... (which I still enjoy... a lot!). I especially remember one book called El pirata garrapata. I wrote a letter to the author, and he wrote back! And from when I was a teenager: The Count of Monte Cristo. I think this book was very important to me later, when I decided to live surrounded by books, stories, characters...

What were your favorite movies as a child? As a child, I don't remember, probably Sesame Street on TV (though I don't think we used to watch that much TV back then); Oh! and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. A little bit later: Indiana Jones and Back to the Future.

Your top three books of all time: A very tricky one! Apart from The Count of Monte Cristo, which I mentioned before because it's been a very special one, I'm an absolute fan of Stefan Zweig's works. Lately I've enjoyed The White Tiger and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. If you want, you can follow my readings on Goodreads.
